Development is booming in the Seacoast region, and as a result, the health of the estuary is declining. We need to toughen up the protections in place to protect the Great Bay Estuary for future generations. Here's the problem: While the Department of Environmental Services is considering the steps it should take to keep Great Bay Estuary protected, their recommendations may be years off. But while they study, developers will continue to build the types of projects that hurt the estuary. Environment New Hampshire is working to pass legislation this year that will rein in the runaway development that's hurting Great Bay Estuary and wetlands areas across the state.
