<title>Environment New Hampshire Endorses Paul Hodes for New Hampshire&#x27;s 2nd Congressional District</title>
<link>http://www.environmentnewhampshire.org/newsroom/more-news/more-news/environment-new-hampshire-endorses-paul-hodes-for-new-hampshires-2nd-congressional-district</link>
<description>Today, Environment New Hampshire endorsed Paul Hodes for the 2nd Congressional District, citing his commitment to clean energy and the environment. &#x26;ldquo;For too long, Congress has failed to enact clean energy policies that would help New Hampshire take advantage of our vast renewable energy resources. Hodes has the commitment to clean energy and the commitment to his district that is needed to build New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s new energy economy and move America towards a new energy future,&#x26;rdquo; said Erika Staaf, Advocate for Environment New Hampshire. Rep. Hodes has consistently supported boosting investment and encouraging growth in the renewable energy sector. Hodes has also expressed a need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and remove the $13 billion in subsidies to oil and gas companies during this era of record profits. In the past two years, Rep. Hodes has cosponsored legislation to raise fuel economy standards for vehicles and increase energy efficiency standards for appliances. He has also supported establishing a Renewable Electricity Standard, a major step in shifting the country away from fossil fuels and instead toward clean energy sources such as wind, solar and clean biomass to meet our electricity needs. &#x26;ldquo;Hodes has consistently stood with the environmental community. He has campaigned for strong energy and global warming measures, and now is the time for the bold action and new solutions that Rep. Hodes brings to the table,&#x26;rdquo; said Staaf. His career so far has also produced a strong environmental voting record, scoring 100% in Environment New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s 2008 scorecard. Of Hodes&#x26;rsquo; opponents, none has a dependable commitment to the environment. All but one, who does not mention our current energy crisis at all, encourage drilling offshore and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge rather than investing all available resources into renewable energy sources to truly impact energy prices. Further, none has demonstrated support for strong, science-based global warming legislation as a priority for the next Congress. Environment New Hampshire has also endorsed Carol Shea-Porter for the 1st Congressional District, Jeanne Shaheen for U.S. Senate and Barack Obama for President. Environment New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s federal organization, Environment America, has prepared a report on the environmental records of both presidential candidates, including their lifetime environmental voting records, which is available at http://www.environmentamerica.org/issues/election-2008. &#x26;ldquo;For real solutions to global warming and investment in New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s vast renewable resources that we need to build a new energy future, Paul Hodes is hands down the best choice for the 2nd Congressional District,&#x26;rdquo; said Staaf. ### </description>

<title>Environment New Hampshire endorses Jeanne Shaheen for U.S. Senate </title>
<link>http://www.environmentnewhampshire.org/newsroom/more-news/more-news/environment-new-hampshire-endorses-jeanne-shaheen-for--u_s_-senate</link>
<description>Concord, NH &#x26;ndash; Today, Environment New Hampshire endorsed Jeanne Shaheen for the U.S. Senate, citing her commitment to clean energy and the environment. &#x22;Our nation is at a crossroads on energy policy, and we need a bold new direction. Jeanne Shaheen is the right choice for the environment and will bring her track record of progress in Concord to Congress,&#x22; said Erika Staaf, Advocate for Environment New Hampshire. &#x26;ldquo;Shaheen has the commitment to clean energy and the commitment to her state that is needed to build New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s New Energy Economy and move America towards a new energy future,&#x22; continued Staaf. Shaheen supports boosting investment and encouraging growth in the renewable energy sector, which will help to create new jobs across the state. At the same time, Shaheen understands that it is time to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and remove the $13 billion in subsidies to oil and gas companies during this era of record profits. &#x22;Shaheen will stand-up to big oil and end the billion dollar subsidies to an industry that&#x26;rsquo;s making record profits on the backs of consumers and our environment,&#x22; said Staaf. &#x22;This energy crisis cannot be solved by old solutions, and Jeanne Shaheen is ready to fight for change.&#x22; Environment New Hampshire also cited Shaheen&#x26;rsquo;s commitment to global warming as a key reason for their endorsement. New Hampshire could see severe impacts from global warming, from a shrinking snow season in the wintertime to increased frequency of flooding along our coastline and across the state. &#x22;Electing Shaheen would help break the loggerheads in Washington on global warming legislation,&#x22; said Staaf. &#x22;Shaheen would work to address the most important and critical environmental issues of our time. We need that kind of leadership.&#x22; In stark contrast, Shaheen&#x26;rsquo;s opponent, U.S. Senator John Sununu has time and again failed to support New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s burgeoning new energy economy and global warming solutions. Sen. Sununu earned a fifty percent score in the 2008 Environment New Hampshire Scorecard. &#x22;Sen. John Sununu has left New Hampshire citizens a record of disappointment,&#x22; said Staaf. &#x22;While Sununu has spoken out on issues such as energy independence, his voting record contradicts his rhetoric. Sununu has blocked the development of clean energy in his own state.&#x22; Environment New Hampshire has also endorsed Carol Shea-Porter for New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s 1st Congressional District, Paul Hodes for the 2nd Congressional District, and Barack Obama for President. Environment America has prepared a report on the environmental records of both presidential candidates, including their lifetime environmental voting records which are available at http://www.environmentamerica.org/issues/election-2008. Environment New Hampshire is committed to working in New Hampshire with our federation of state organizations to mount an aggressive effort to secure a victory for Jeanne Shaheen, Carol Shea-Porter, Paul Hodes, and Barack Obama including grassroots outreach to our members and the public. &#x22;For real solutions to global warming and an investment in New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s vast renewable resources, Jeanne Shaheen is clearly the best choice for U.S. Senate,&#x22; said Staaf. ### Paid for Environment New Hampshire at www.EnvironmentNewHampshire.org. <description>Today, Environment New Hampshire endorsed Carol Shea-Porter for the 1st Congressional District, citing her commitment to clean energy and the environment. &#x26;ldquo;For too long, Congress has failed to enact clean energy policies that would help New Hampshire take advantage of our renewable energy resources. Her career so far has also produced a strong environmental voting record, scoring 100% in Environment New Hampshire&#x26;rsquo;s 2008 scorecard. Of Shea-Porters opponents, neither has a dependable commitment to the environment. Both Jeb Bradley and John Stephen have declared their support for drilling off America&#x26;rsquo;s shores and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge under the false pretence of lowering gas prices. Environment New Hampshire has also endorsed Paul Hodes for the 2nd Congressional District, Jeanne Shaheen for U.S. Senate and Barack Obama for President.
